Do You Know What to do When Your Tire Blows Out?

You're riding down the highway, listening to your favorite song when all of a sudden you hear a loud noise followed by a thud. Your tire has blown out. Do you know the steps you need to take in order to stay safe? If not, we're here to help. Below are some tips on how to survive a tire blowout.

  • First thing you should do is remain calm and don't do anything. Don't turn the steering wheel, press the brakes, and don't step on the gas pedal. Doing any of these can cause a spin out.
  • Steer as straight as possible. You'll feel your car pulling to one side after a blowout but just firmly grip the wheel and drive straight ahead.
  • Press the gas gently. It may sound crazy but it may help you gain control of your car by giving it a forward momentum.
  • Gradually allow your care to slow down. If your car isn't slowing down much you may very lightly tap your brakes to help you control the speed.
  • Once you're going slow enough, pull over to the side of the road. It's best to pull over on the side with the flat tire so you don't have to change a tire with oncoming traffic.
